Treasures of the Crown | Notes About the Setting
Hidden under the palace grounds at the heart of Old Breta, lies a vault. Though it is neither famed nor grand, it too could be considered one of the world's wonders - fabricated long before the structures built above ground, which now keep watch over it. Many of the treasures interred within are vaunted relics, obtained, or in some cases seized, from locations throughout the land. Others are more recent creations, forged by master craftsmen within the chambers of the World Kiln itself. In any case, the use of such rare, valuable items as these is not to be considered lightly, and the majority of the most bespoke items have only seen a single use - the circumstance for which they were crafted - only to remain sequestered away ever since.
The Dragon's Roar
A prodigious armament taken from jaws of Titanodragon of Calam, following its defeat at the hands of the Drakeslayers. This weapon is functionally considered a flamethrower, but requires no fuel and instead unleashes a wave of such incendiary potency that for a brief instant it sets the very air alight in a roaring explosion. Upon being brought to the captial, it has been adapted by a team of experienced smiths so that it is possible for a knight to wield. Owing to its destructive power, the Dragon's Roar is only released from the vault on the rare occasions that such might is truly needed.
Clarment, The Regent's Blade
A blade of clementine crystal stands embedded into a carved, stone altar. Its hilt has been forged from dark metal and wraps around the base of the blade, so as to leave the crystal's structure undisturbed. This sword is known as Clarment, formerly the personal weapon of the ruler of the Northern Kingdoms, Lord of the order of Drakeslayers. With the end of the Dragon War, so too has its glorious tale reached a pause within these confines.
It is a time of great improvement for the knight orders: fresh weapons and armour, of designs never seen before, are brought forth from the kingdoms' forges and the supply of Anvillon to the east, ready for the start of a new era. So too has the Grand Regent been bestowed with state-of-the-art warplate and a prized blade - the foremost of a new kind - for his side.
Thus, for the moment, Clarment rests. The activation locks, matched to the genetic sequence of its original wielder, ensuring that it would defy the hands of any other. But this tool of legend will not be denied its role forever and, in the future yet to come, it shall be claimed once more.
Prototype Caster
In contrast to the chamber's other contents, this caster is of such ordinary and unpolished appearance that a viewer might consider its presence part of a joke or a mistake. However, this item alone carries a unique significance entirely, for though it is neither as aged as the relics from times before, nor as exquisite as the products of the Kiln's forges, this caster has seen a time when the Grand Regent was yet to even become a Regent. Devised by the first of his followers, as a tool by which his growing forces might bring his goals of unity to fruition, this weapon is the eldest ancestor of all the variations now wielded by the Kingdoms' defenders.
The Marked Cube
An bizarre item found by chance by engineers of the Adamant Claws order during the construction of a fortification network along the south-western border. The cube is opaque and symmetrical on all sides, barring the patterns of dots etched into each face and a seam around its midsection, carrying the implication that it could be opened. Ever since its discovery, the box has remained unopened and sealed within the vault, but not before the markings were transcribed and, with the Grand Regent's agreement, provided to a number of scholarly circles within the Northern Kingdoms. Despite the lack of success in deciphering its meaning so far, it is hoped that one day the contents or purpose of the cube may be discerned, and a decision finally made.
